How it works

Our Safety Chevron & Markings Process

We make safety chevrons and reflective vehicle markings straightforward from start to finish, which is why so many local businesses and fleet operators trust us with repeat work. No unnecessary complexity, minimal vehicle downtime, just reliable, compliant safety markings fitted correctly and built to perform in real world road and roadside conditions.

Step 1

Mapping Your Vehicle Specific Safety Chevrons & Reflective Markings

Every effective safety marking starts with a clear and compliant plan. At The Print Box, we take the time to understand how your vehicle is used, where it operates, and the level of visibility and compliance required for its role on the road or at the roadside.

From rear panel layout and chevron direction to reflective grade selection and edge definition, every decision is made with UK Chapter 8 guidance, durability, and long term safety performance in mind.

Step 2

Print Production For Safety Chevrons & Reflective Markings

Once your safety layout is approved, we handle the full preparation and production process in-house, ensuring complete control over accuracy, material selection, and compliance from start to finish. This allows us to produce safety markings that meet specification and perform correctly in real-world conditions.

Each chevron kit or reflective marking set is carefully prepared for print, checked against layout requirements, and produced using approved reflective vinyls selected for visibility, durability, and long term performance. Where required, materials are specified to align with UK Chapter 8 guidance, including correct colour contrast and reflective grades.

Step 3

Delivered And Fitted On-Site Where Suitable

Once production is complete, it’s time for installation. Depending on your requirements, we can attend your site at an agreed time or carry out fitting at our designated unit. Our experienced installers work efficiently and methodically to ensure safety markings are applied correctly, with minimal disruption to your operations.

For best results, we often recommend the vehicle is with us prior to fitting and allow adequate time after installation for the materials to fully bond. This ensures correct adhesion, accurate alignment, and long term performance, particularly for reflective chevrons exposed to frequent road use and harsh conditions.

Reflectivity Requirement: For Chapter 8 compliance, rear markings must cover at least 50% of the rear vehicle surface.

Questions

Chapter 8 Safety Chevron & Marking FAQ’s

We have compiled a list of the most common questions we get asked for you.

Can't see your question? Call 01902 791553.

What happens if regulations or vehicle layouts change in the future?

We design chevrons with flexibility in mind. If you replace a vehicle or need to update markings, we can adapt existing artwork rather than starting from scratch, helping reduce future costs and delays.

Can you match chevrons across a fleet or future vehicles?

Yes. We save all artwork and layouts securely, making it easy to roll out consistent chevrons across multiple vehicles or match new vehicles as your fleet grows.

How much downtime will my safety vehicle have?

In most cases, chevrons can be fitted within a few hours. For best results, we may recommend the vehicle is left with us or off road briefly to allow adhesives to fully bond, reducing the risk of failure once the vehicle is back in service. In most cases you will have same say turn-around

How long do safety chevrons last in real working conditions?

When correctly installed, our chevrons are designed to last 5–7 years under normal commercial use. We use durable, outdoor rated materials and allow proper curing time to prevent lifting, edge failure, or premature wear.

Will chevrons fit around windows, sensors, or rear doors properly?

Yes. Every chevron kit is custom fitted to the vehicle, taking into account rear windows, split doors, hinges, sensors, cameras, and handles. We never use “one size fits all” layouts that compromise visibility or compliance.

What’s the difference between engineering grade and prismatic reflective?

Engineering grade reflective is suitable for lower risk, urban, or occasional roadside use. Prismatic reflective offers much higher reflectivity and is typically required for motorway, highway, and night time operations. We’ll recommend the correct grade so you’re not under or over specifying.

Are your chevrons Chapter 8 compliant?

Yes. Our chevron kits are produced using Chapter 8 compliant layouts and approved reflective materials, with correct colour contrast, angles, and coverage based on vehicle type. We’ll also advise whether engineering grade or prismatic reflective is appropriate for how your vehicle is used.

Do my vehicles actually need safety chevrons?

Safety chevrons are required or strongly recommended for vehicles that stop, work, or operate on or near live roads, especially highways and high speed routes. Many fleets fit chevrons to meet UK Chapter 8 guidance, improve rear-end visibility, and reduce risk to drivers and the public.
